Lychnis coronaria. Small dazzling magenta flowers on 2-3 foot plants. Extremely striking in mass plantings. Start blooming in late May and last through July. Full sunlight in average to moist soil. Hardy short-lived perennial that forms mullein-like rosettes the first year, flowers the second year and then self sows. Not bothered by pests, diseases or deer.
Native of Europe that has been popular in gardens for at least 2000 years. Wooly leaves were used as lamp wicks in ancient times. Also called Silene coronaria.
