An erect, hardy but short-lived native perennial that grows 2-4 feet high. Beautiful, fragranced purple-blue flowers on dense spikes 2-4" long, last well into autumn and attract many bees and other beneficial insects. Makes an uplifting tea or use as a culinary seasoning. Square stems with opposite, oval-shaped and heart-shaped leaves at the base. The undersides of the leaves are covered with small soft grey hairs while the upper surface is hairless.
