Nitrogen fixing annual, native to the Alps, the mountains of Eastern and South Eastern Europe and in the Caucasus. This blue flowered near relative of fenugreek is grown as a spice in most Mediterranian countries, and sometimes used as a fodder crop. The powdered leaves and flowers are used in Switzerland to flavour and colour Schabzieger and Sapsago cheeses. It is also used to flavour bread, soups, potato dishes and to make an aromatic tea. The young seedlings are eaten as a fresh green with oil and salt. 100 seeds or more.
