Beta vulgaris. A unique cylindrical shaped beet growing 6-8 inches long by 2 inches wide (almost carrot shaped) with a dark red, fine grained flesh. Great sweet flavour. Because of the shape, it is easy to peel and slice. Ideal for canning and pickling. Leaves are sweeter than other varieties, making excellent greens. Tells you when it's ready by popping out of the ground! Old heirloom from Denmark.
